Biography

Born in Mâcon in eastern France, Antoine Griezmann was rejected by French academies due to his diminutive size before earning a trial with Real Sociedad in Spain at age 14. He flourished in the Basque Country, making his senior debut in 2009 and helping the club earn promotion to La Liga and qualify for the Champions League. In 2014, Griezmann joined Diego Simeone's Atlético Madrid, where his tactical work rate, clever movement, and lethal finishing elevated him into world-class standing. He scored twice in the 2018 UEFA Europa League final against Marseille and finished on the Ballon d'Or podium twice in 2016 and 2018. In January 2024, he surpassed Luis Aragonés to become Atlético Madrid's all-time record goalscorer. For France, Griezmann was the heartbeat of Didier Deschamps' side, claiming the Golden Boot at Euro 2016 and winning the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where he scored in the final against Croatia and claimed the Bronze Ball. He retired from international football in September 2024 after a legendary 137-cap career.
