Biography

Born in Kingston upon Thames, Declan Rice spent seven years in Chelsea's academy before joining West Ham United at age 14. He made his senior Premier League debut on the final day of the 2016-17 season and developed into one of the most dominant defensive midfielders in English football, renowned for his ground coverage, ball recoveries, and driving ball carries. In May 2022, Rice was named West Ham club captain following Mark Noble's retirement. In June 2023, he captained the Hammers to their first major European trophy in 58 years with a 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in the UEFA Europa Conference League final in Prague, being named the competition's Player of the Season. In July 2023, Rice moved to Arsenal in a club-record £105 million transfer. He quickly became an indispensable midfield presence, contributing crucial late winning goals against Manchester United and Luton Town as Arsenal pushed Manchester City to the final day of the title race. For England, Rice has started nearly every tournament match under Gareth Southgate, playing in the UEFA Euro 2020 and Euro 2024 finals.
